Medicare: Better Access
Under Better Access, eligible patients can claim Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual and 10 group sessions per calendar year. You need a referral, for example under a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan, and after six sessions the referral must be reviewed. Rebates apply to psychological therapy from clinical psychologists, and to focussed psychological strategies from eligible psychologists, GPs, occupational therapists and social workers. Private health insurance cannot top up the Medicare benefit (Medicare Benefits Schedule, item 80110).
A Jungian analyst can be claimed under Better Access only if they are also one of these registered providers. Ask the analyst before you book.
If cost is the barrier, see low-fee analysis and analysts who work online.
Does Medicare cover Jungian analysis?
Only if the analyst is also an eligible Medicare provider, such as a clinical psychologist, and you have a referral. Better Access then covers up to 10 individual sessions a calendar year.
