Find a Jungian Analyst

Jungian analyst or Jungian therapist?

A Jungian analyst has finished a training recognised by the International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP) and belongs to an IAAP member society or the IAAP itself. A Jungian therapist is a looser description: usually a licensed therapist, counsellor or psychologist who draws on Jung's ideas, with or without a formal Jungian training.

Neither title is a licence to practise. Licences come from the state or national regulator where the person works.

How the two compare

Certified Jungian analyst Therapist who describes their work as Jungian
Credential Diploma from an IAAP-recognised training programme Varies: a degree and a licence in counselling, social work, psychology or psychotherapy; sometimes a Jungian course
Who checks it An IAAP member society, which lists its analysts The state or national licensing body, for the licence; nobody, for the word "Jungian"
Training in their own analysis A long personal analysis is part of the training Depends on the person
How to check The society's public roster; this directory shows the source The regulator's register, and by asking

Analysts in training (candidates) sit between the two: they are enrolled in an IAAP-recognised programme and see clients under supervision. This directory labels them "analyst in training".

Which should you look for?

That depends on what you want. If you want someone who has completed a full Jungian training, look for a certified analyst; the source line on each listing here tells you which society lists them, so you can check. If cost is the main barrier, candidates and clinics often charge less: see low-fee analysis.

How this directory decides

We list only people who appear on the public roster of an IAAP member society, and label candidates separately. Therapists who describe their work as Jungian but are not on such a roster are not listed for now. The editorial policy has the full rules.

Is a Jungian therapist the same as a Jungian analyst?

No. "Jungian analyst" normally means a person certified through an IAAP-recognised training. "Jungian therapist" can describe anyone who draws on Jung's ideas.

How can I check if someone is a certified Jungian analyst?

Look for them on the public roster of an IAAP member society. Every listing in this directory links to the roster it came from.

Is a candidate a qualified analyst?

Not yet. A candidate is in training at an IAAP-recognised programme and works under the supervision of certified analysts.
